SDM-Engine

Engine of choice... and the sole reason for this project I must add..

B5254 naturally aspirated
For some time already I was wondering how a 5 cylinder NA would behave.
I started the Mjolnir project as a low budget project build around this engine.
Low budget in the sense of aquiring a car for cheap, put a seat and an engine in it and use it as a dedicated
track car.
Low budget and a track car are two different things but the basic parts to get the car going shouldn't cost the
world. Of course the surrounding parts to make the car work will add considerable cost.

So.. With the "Low budget" in mind the project will start with a basic 20V engine. No fancy stuff like special
pistons or rods etc. Most parts will be stock. If necessary parts will be machined by myself or with the help of
friends.
Some parts like flywheel. Pulley and whatever part can be machined will lose weight.
The only "secret" ingredient added to the mix, the ingredient which made me start this project....
Individual throttle bodies

The goals,

First thing is to make it run of course. Given the information that a stock B5254 can produce near 170 HP at
the crank I hope the first tuning stage will bring it over 200 at the crank.
Since I want the whole car to be ready for the 2007 season this will probably be the setup for the months after.
Later on, if things develop as planned, I'm thinking about building a second engine with some more modifications.
In this stage I hope to reach 240-250 HP at the crank, maybe a bit more if we are lucky.
The above posted information is how it started but all of a sudden there was an unexpected change of plan..

The engine went dead.
During the last Ring vist the first installed engine spun a rod bearing .
Because of this set back I needed to speed up the build of the second engine.
Since I was pretty happy with the way the car performed I decided to keep the second engine mostly stock.
The basis for the second engine is a 2001 B5244T3 turbo engine including the crank and the rods.
Pistons are NA 0.4 mm overbore OEM/Mahle and compression remains virtually unchanged.
This engine will receive an older B5254S type head because of the fitment of the TB's to this head.

Work on the new engine just started early June and I hope it will be up and running in August.
Pistons are NA 0.4 mm overbore OEM/Mahle. A few adjustements will raise compression close to 11:1.
